DOUBT CAN PARALYZE US. IT IS FEAR THAT MOVES IN AND TAKES UP RESIDENCE INSIDE OUR MINDS.

“WHAT IF…”

“I CAN’T…”

“THAT’S IMPOSSIBLE..”

Our “reptilian brain” is the part of our human design that is in charge of keeping us safe and ensuring our survival.

It has no interest in growth, possibility and conquering challenges.

Its only job is to stop us in our tracks so we will hunker down and play it safe. Of course, it can be very compelling. Our only hope to create lives where we take risks and move beyond our known limitations is to learn to manage the incessant monologue in our minds.

I believe that this inner voice is universal. It takes intention, effort and practice to allow it to have its say and move forward anyway. One of the most important tools I share with clients is how to turn the inner monologue into a dialogue. For every fearful thought, there are powerful responses available.

“This feels scary and I want (the incredible reward). How can I take a tiny step (or jump off the cliff)?”

Doubt will nag us repeatedly and question the choices after we make them. We must always find a way to move forward (in the right timing).

Get support. Make a mind map. Say the truth to someone who is trustworthy.

If you must, wait till the pain of not doing something wears you down. However you get there, keep answering that nagging doubt rather than let it have its way with you. Each risk fortifies you to take the next one.

This is the true path to self esteem…taking on something you don’t know you can do and completing it. Acknowledge the doubt, answer it, take a step, repeat as necessary.
